Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

We believe in being straight with you. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it may be used. We don't bury things in small print — if we use your data for something, it's in here.

Who we are

Pixologist is an iOS application developed and operated by Pixologist. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to Pixologist. You can reach us at theteam@pixologist.app with any questions.

What information we collect

We collect information in two ways — what you give us directly, and what we observe about how the app is used.

Information you provide directly

Information we collect automatically

Your cabinet inventory — the bottles you scan and add — is stored on your device. It is not transmitted to our servers in a form that identifies you personally.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

When we refer to sharing aggregated insights with partners, this means data that has been stripped of any information that could identify you as an individual. A partner might receive an insight such as "gin is the most scanned spirit among Pixologist users in the UK" — they would not receive your name, your specific cabinet, or any data linked to you personally.

Sharing your information

We do not sell personal information — that is, information that identifies you as an individual — to third parties.

We may share information in the following circumstances:

Affiliate links and third-party retailers

Pixologist may include links to purchase spirits, ingredients, or related products from third-party retailers. If you make a purchase through one of these links, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. These relationships do not influence what appears in the app.

When you follow an affiliate link you leave the Pixologist app, and the retailer's own privacy policy will apply to any information you provide during that transaction.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under applicable data protection law, including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR. These may include the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at theteam@pixologist.app. We will respond within 30 days. Note that these rights apply to personal data — they do not extend to anonymised aggregated data, which by its nature cannot be linked back to you.

Data retention

We keep your email address on our waiting list only until the app launches and you have been notified, after which you may request removal at any time by emailing us. Diagnostic and usage data is retained for up to 24 months, after which it is deleted or further anonymised. Aggregated, anonymised insights are not subject to a retention limit as they do not constitute personal data.

Children's privacy

Pixologist relates to alcoholic spirits and is intended solely for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no system is completely secure. If you have concerns, please contact us.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with applicable data protection law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app and our business evolve. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify waiting list subscribers by email. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Contact and complaints

For any questions, requests, or concerns about this policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at theteam@pixologist.app.

If you are based in the UK and feel we have not handled your data appropriately, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
